Following on from the fun games night at the Miners Institute some time ago, a draughts competition was suggested. This has taken place over the last six months or so and many thanks to the brave competitors who were up for a bit of fun or a serious match depending on your outlook. Most of the matches took place in the Kirky Puffer after Jim’s very successful Thursday walks. Spectator numbers varied and to pass the time, dominos and card games were also provided. Dominos were a firm favourite and a relaxing time was had by all with lunch and chat as optional extras. The games culminated in the final on 13th February between Izzy and William. The game was tense and very close but Izzy was the eventual winner. She received a bottle of excellent wine as her prize as did William.
It was a logistical nightmare to arrange due to busy schedules. However, it was worth it and we can honestly say that of all the Scottish Ramblers groups, Kirkintilloch has the national champion and runner up. That is unless other clubs can say otherwise.
Next year the Commonwealth Games perhaps.
